Warden baseball crowned district champion

EAST WENATCHEE - The Warden Cougars are the 2012 North Central 2B District champions. The team earned top honors by defeating Riverside Christian 2-1 May 12, and are the No. 1 seed at the regional tournament that takes place in Walla Walla Saturday. Warden will face Lind-Ritzville at 10 a.m. in round one.

If they win, the Cougars will play the winner of the DeSales Lake Roosevelt game for the right to play in the state tournament at Rotary Field in Ellensburg.

Warden finished the regular season with a 15-0 league record and was 19-1 overall to claim the North Central 2B title. The team earned several accolades along the way.

Named First Team All-League were seniors Derek Pruneda and Ty Jesse, and freshman Jerry Reyes. Second Team All-League players are senior JP Martinez and Garritt Marks.

Making the Honorable Team are senior Ruben Martinez and sophomore Louie Reyes. Senior Cruz Pruneda was named MVP, senior Manuel Amezola earned Best Pitcher honors, and Dan Caballero was named Coach of the Year.
