OTHELLO - The Othello School District's alternative school, the Alternative Learning Placement Site, will be moving to a new home, possibly as early as January 2013.

Othello School Board members voted to accept a proposed floor plan for the remodeled building at their regular meeting May 14. The alternative school will move from its current home to the former Nazarene Church of Othello.

"Our hope is that the facility will be completely remodeled by the end the year. That's our hope," said district superintendent George Juarez.

Currently the alternative school is in district-owned property on First Avenue, but Juarez said the move is prompted by need to open more space at Othello High School. When the alternative school moves, the plan is to move the district's administrative offices from the high school to the building that housed the alternative school, Juarez said.

The project should go to bid sometime this summer, he said.

In other business, board members approved a school calendar for the 2012-13 school year.

The first day of school will be Aug. 23, with winter break from Dec. 24 to Jan. 4. Spring vacation will be the week of April 1, 2013, with graduation tentatively scheduled for May 31. The last day of school will be June 7, 2013.
