MOSES LAKE - About 350 Peninsula Elementary students ran around - and around and around - Lions Field in the school's first-ever jogathon.

Children from kindergarten through the fifth grade, some parents and teachers walked and ran around the football field for about 90 minutes. They collected pledges for every lap, with the proceeds going to the physical education program, including field trips and equipment, and other school activities.

Physical education teacher Kelly Googhenan ran 56 laps, the most of anybody on the field. Ahtzari Guzman ran more laps than any other student, with 47.

The PE department plans to make the jogathon an annual event, said PE teacher Rolland Hansen.
