Teacher appreciation

| May 11, 2012 6:00 AM

As classes wind down to an end in Columbia Basin schools, don't forget the efforts of your child's teachers.

We think it's important to stop and thank teachers for their hard work and dedication throughout the school year.

Teachers balance a vast array of needs shown in their classes. They strive daily to help students of different levels and abilities. At the same time, educators must keep students' attention and maintain classroom discipline.

Meeting changing educational standards is also part of their job.

They are on the front lines with students and parents during the best and worst of times.

It's a tall order, but one educators embrace.

There is still time left to show your appreciation before school ends.

Schedule some time to volunteer in your son or daughter's classroom or simply send a note thanking the teacher for his or her efforts. Be sure to detail how much your child has learned throughout the year.

In the final weeks of school, help your kids stay on track by ensuring they complete homework assignments on time and arrive to school ahead of the bell.

You are assisting your child in building good habits to carry into their work and personal lives.
