SUNNYSIDE - Ephrata's Kendall Sage was crowed individual champion at the CWAC District 5/6 girls golf tournament at Black Rock Creek in Sunnyside Tuesday. Her round of 90 on the par 72 course earned her the medalist award and helped lead the Tigers to a third place finish out of the 10 schools that participated in the event.

Selah took first with a team score of 405. Othello was four strokes off the pace with 409, Ephrata finished with 422. Quincy took seventh with 514.

"I am very proud of Kendall. Her goal this season was to win districts," coach Heidi Burns said. "I thought what a great goal, but as a freshman competing against Taylor Jones from Selah and Delaney Towle from Othello would be a challenge. They are experienced district golfers and Kendall is new to districts."

Burns said Sage got off to a shaky start, but regained her composure and finished out strong.

"Kendall was very nervous at the beginning but overcame her nerves to play an excellent round of golf," she said. "She played a smart round by playing every shot safe. This is something most freshman don't understand about the game of golf because of the lack of experience. However, Kendall worked hard all season to accomplish the understanding of smart golf. Not only did Kendall get medalist yesterday, she was also voted MVP by the CWAC coaches ... what a great accomplishment as a freshman."

Rounding out the Tigers team score was Rachael Autry who shot 104, Tressa Davis carded 107, Zoe Tanner had a 121, Kaitlyn Autry recorded a 129, Kailey Leiuallen finished with 144.

Towle (92) shot the low round for Othello. Shelby Bassett and Kyla Schaapman shot 123 for Quincy.

The top 25 finishers at district qualified for the District 5/6/7 Regional Tournament at Apple Tree in Yakima May 15.

Local area girls who will make the trip are Sage, Rachael Autry, Davis and Tanner from Ephrata, Towle, Kylie Kummer, Hailey Guse, and Mikayla Parris from Othello, and Bassett and Schaapman from Quincy.
