Moses Lake - Nico Moreno will soon be sporting Cardinal red as he has signed a letter of intent to enroll at North Idaho College (NIC) this summer.

The two year institution is located on the north end of Lake Coeur d' Alene. Moreno will become a member of the wrestling team while he earns his Associate's Arts degree in the field of carpentry.

"We are excited to have him join our program," coach Pat Whitcomb said. "It's a great sign for us."

Moreno has been a staple in the Moses Lake High School wrestling program for the past four years.

During that time he has amassed many accolades. He is a three-time district champion, a four-time regional champion, a three-time finalist at state, and was crowned champion at the Mat Classic state tournament in Tacoma in 2012.

"Nico has meant a lot to our program. He has been extremely successful and we are definitely going to miss him," coach Jamie Wise said. "But I am excited he's going to continue wrestling because I'd like to see him win a junior college national title next year."

Moreno was just ecstatic to be attending NIC.

"This is a great opportunity for me," he said. "The have a good wrestling program there. I hope to be able to have the same kind of success that I've had here at Moses Lake High School. My goal is to win two national titles while I am there."

Moreno has been wrestling since he was 4 years-old and basically cut his teeth in the sport as a member of the Moses Lake Wrestling Club.
