Grant County looking for board members

EPHRATA - Grant County is looking for applicants for two open positions on the board of equalization.

The people appointed to the board will serve a three-year term on the five member board. The board is responsible for hearing appeals related to property tax assessments, according to the county. The appeals include determinations of real and personal property, exemption denials and current use determinations.

"They are responsible for assuring that all real and personal property entered on the county's assessment roll is at true and fair market value," according to the county.

The board holds at least seven to 10 day-long hearings a year, according to the county.

Applicants need to be Grant County residents, and live within Commissioner Richard Stevens' or Commissioner Carolann Swartz' districts, according to the county. The candidates need to attend a training course within a year of being appointed.

"The ideal candidate will have knowledge of appraisal methods, experience in real estate sales and marketing, banking, farming and general knowledge of the county," according to the county. "Members may not hold an elected office or be employed by an elected official."

Members receive a $75 per diem and expenses, according to the county.
