Grant County elections filing begins next week

MOSES LAKE - Candidates wishing to file for any of the three Grant County elected positions on the ballot this fall can do so starting next week.

Starting at 8 a.m. Monday, May 14, through 5 p.m. Friday, May 18, people may file in person at the Grant County Elections Department, located on the second floor of the Grant County courthouse in Ephrata.

Mail-in declarations are accepted now through May 18 and must be received in the election department at the close of business. Postmarks are not accepted.

Candidates can also choose to file online from 9 a.m. May 14 to 4 p.m. May 18.

Grant County positions up for election this year include county commissioner for district 1 and district 2; superior court judge positions 1, 2 and 3; and PUD commissioners for district 1 and district A at large.

County commissioner and PUD commissioner candidates must be a resident of their respective commissioner districts.

The filing fee is 1 percent of the annual salary for the office a candidate chooses to run for. There is no filing fee for precinct committee officers, which are also up for election.

Some registrants will see a change to their voting districts in light of the redistricting of state legislative districts, Grant County commissioner districts and the Grant County PUD commissioner districts taking effect before the first day of filing. New voter registration cards will be issued to all active registrants, even if there has been no change to their precinct or districts.
