Two arrested for drugs, theft near Moses Lake

MOSES LAKE - Two Moses Lake men were arrested for drug possession and a stolen vehicle after Grant County sheriff's deputies responded to a suspicious persons report.

On Wednesday about 9:30 p.m., deputies received a call from a citizen reporting suspicious vehicles and people on Dune Lake Loop Southeast. The resident expressed worry the men were stealing machinery from his neighbor's property, according to Grant County Sheriff Tom Jones.

Three deputies arrived a short time later to find four men loading scrap metal onto a flatbed trailer towed by a pickup truck. The trailer was lit up by the headlights of a nearby Nissan passenger car, Jones stated.

An investigation revealed the pickup was registered as stolen, and deputies found two of the men had drugs in their possession.

Daniel Charpentier, 26, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle, third-degree theft and possession of methamphetamine.

Kyle Phillips, 26, was arrested on suspicion of the manufacture, delivery or possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, possession of 40 grams or less of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both were booked into the Grant County Jail.

The other two men at the scene were detained, questioned and released, Jones stated; adding further charges are possible.
