| May 3, 2012 6:00 AM

Ada Lorraine Solberg, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away at her longtime home in Warden on Monday, April 23, 2012 at the age of 79. Lorraine was born August 28, 1932 in Moscow, Idaho. She was the daughter of William and Mildred Mushlitz and was the oldest of three children.

Lorraine graduated from Hansen High School in 1950 and attended the University of Idaho in Moscow and Eastern Washington State College (now EWU) in Cheney, earning a degree in education. Upon graduation in 1954, Lorraine taught sixth grade at Peninsula Elementary school in Moses Lake. She married Ralph Solberg on November 6, 1954. Over the years, they were blessed with 5 children: twins Gregory and Vicki, sons Michael and Jeffry, and daughter Sonya.

The family lived briefly in Quincy before settling in Warden in 1960, where Ralph founded The Warden Register, the first weekly newspaper for the town. Lorraine shared duties at the newspaper and worked as a substitute teacher for the Warden School District. Later, Lorraine was employed by Asgrow Seed Company, where she worked until her retirement in 1999.

Lorraine was an avid reader of a wide variety of books, but enjoyed mysteries most of all. She loved watching sports and would never miss a game played by her Zags, Mariners, Seahawks and Cougars. She was very artistic and decorated her house with tole paintings, needlepoint, quilting and crocheting projects. In the past several years, Lorraine combined her two passions: scrapbooking and genealogy, to research her family tree and create elaborate scrapbooks, which she shared with her children. Other interests included cooking, tending flowers in her many planters, and collecting angels and whimsical M&M decanters. Lorraine loved the company of all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her house was the social center of her large family and the frequent gathering place for barbecues, holiday celebrations, and birthdays.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents and eldest son Gregory.

She is survived by daughters Vicki (Joel) Rossell and Sonya (Micheal) Nicholson of Moses Lake, sons Michael (Tawni) Solberg of Othello, Jeffry (Doreen) Solberg of Snohomish, WA, and daughter-in-law Jane Solberg of Snohomish; brother Jerry (Barbara) Mushlitz of Quincy; sister Deanna (Paul) Phillips of Dayton, WA; grandchildren: Joshua (Erin) Rossell, Brett (Jessica) Rossell and Lindsey Rossell of Moses Lake, Stephanie (Lee)Sanders of Farmington, NM , Shannon (Ted) Kubesh of Kettle Falls, WA, Tony (Dawnielle) Solberg of Othello, Sarah Solberg of Mesa, AZ, Nathan Solberg of Snohomish, and Molly Nicholson of Moses Lake; and great grandchildren: Devan, Seth, Caleb, Camryn, Ty, Chris, Kaylie, Isabella, and Aubree.
