Chiefs split games with Chiawana

PASCO - Moses Lake hit the road Friday for a twin bill against Chiawana. At stake was the No. 5 seed heading into the district playoffs if the Chiefs won both games.

But Moses Lake split the doubleheader and ended up as the No. 6 seed and will face No. 3 seed Davis today in a loser out game in Richland at 1 p.m. The winner matches up with the Pirates in round two at 4 p.m.

Things looked promising for the Chiefs as they took the first game of the twin bill 10-6.

Both teams were held off the board for the first two innings, but Moses Lake hung seven runs on the Riverhawks in the top of the third, one in the fourth and one in the fifth to go up 9-0.

Chiawana got a run back in the bottom of the fifth to close the gap to 9-1. Moses Lake added a run in the top of the sixth to go back up by nine, 10-1.

The Riverhawks answered back with two in the bottom of the frame and three in the seventh the make a game of it, but dropped the contest by four runs.

Brad Fox had two doubles in the game and Bryton Redal and Eliott Sage had a double each to lead the offensive attack for the Chiefs.

Chase Tunstall got the win for Moses Lake.

The Riverhawks drew first blood in the second game of the doubleheader as they went up 1-0 after the first inning.

The Chiefs got two back in the top of the third to take their only lead of the game, 2-1. Chiawana rang up seven runs in the bottom of the inning to blow the game open, 8-2.

Moses Lake held the Riverhawks off the board the rest of the way while adding a run in the fifth and sixth innings to get within four, but it was too little too late as the Chiefs lost the game 8-4.

Devin Juarez was tagged with the loss for Moses Lake.
