| May 1, 2012 6:00 AM

Jeffrey Groves Dayett, Sr. 72 a Moses Lake resident passed away suddenly Sunday April 22, 2012 in Wells, Nevada while traveling home from Nevada with his beloved wife Dee.

Jeff was born on December 9,1939 in Baltimore, Maryland to Gurney Hendrickson Dayett, Sr. and Ruth Adaline Ashton.

He spent his early childhood on a large farm in Shanks, WV. When he was about 9 years old the family moved to a farm in Dayton, Maryland, and he graduated from Towson High School in Towson, Maryland in 1958. Right after graduation he enlisted in the United States Army. He served in France, El Paso, Tx and Germany as a heavy equipment mechanic.

During his enlistment he met the love of his life, Deloris Winona Raymond and they were married on August 23, 1963. After his honorable discharge from the Army they made their home in Moses Lake where they raised their three children in a loving and happy home

His children and grandchildren are Jeffrey Dayett, Jr. and wife Tracy, their children Heidi Lynn and Tanner Jeffrey; Debi L. Shinn and husband Lowell; Teri Rose and her children Echo Pierce, Chris Pierce, Ian Brimberry, Amber Troupe, and great granddaughter Makenzie.

Jeff also leaves behind his brother Walter A. Dayett and wife Lois of Littlestown, PA, sister Patricia D.Way and husband Robert of Kent, OH, and sister Alice D. Skipworth and husband James of Franklin Furnace, OH, and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Jeff worked many years in Grant County prior to opening the original Tack Shop that he owned and operated for 25 years with Dee by his side. Hard work was something that came second nature to Jeff and there was never a time that he wasn't the first one to help a friend or relative, if needed. His quick wit and dry sense of humor made him easy to be around.

Jeff achieved an honorable lifetime membership in both the Grant County Sheriff's Posse and Grant County Horse Association. He was also very active as a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge, Scottish Rites, The Shrine, and Order of the Eastern Star.

Jeff loved horses and felt at home in the saddle. You could say he was born a cowboy and came out west to find his ranch. He lived a good and honorable life and is now riding his horses in the pastures of heaven.

There will be a private family memorial held at a later date. In lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be made in his name to Shriner's Hospital for Children: http://support.shrinershospitals.org or make checks payable to: Shriner's Hospital for Children, 911 W. 5th Avenue, Spokane, WA 99204
