Fresh News From MarDon: Fishing and Birdwatching

MARDON RESORT - Bird watchers from all over the Northwest are calling to find out information about the Sandhill Cranes. The 2012 Sandhill Crane Festival has been great for our area and turning many citizens on to that birding potential in the Potholes Recreation Area.

Fishers are waiting for better weather for the fishing to improve in the area. Upper Goose Lake continues to produce quality rainbow for boaters.

Potholes Reservoir surface water temps have been reported in the low to mid 40 degree range.

Bank fishing for rainbows all over Potholes Reservoir has been producing fish over four pounds.

Walleye fishers have been producing quality walleye with Blade Baits on the face of the sand dunes and the north side of Goose Island and in the Lind Coulee arm of Potholes Reservoir.

People trolling are just beginning to report quality walleye in the Lind Coulee area. Double Whammy's and many other monophilament spinners have been the best bait. Do not ignore the Mustad Slow Death Hook for excellent walleye action. With the warming surface water temperatures walleye and bass action will only improve. Early this March largemouth bass weighing up to six pounds have been reported from the sand dunes on Potholes Reservoir. All we need is night temperatures above 50 degrees and warming daytime temperatures and our Lind Coulee walleye bite will explode!

Bass fishermen will have some fine action in the sand dunes.

With the mild winter and warming temperatures early spring fishing should be above average.
