Vikings baseball takes two from Gators
Big Bend BBCC Vikings Baseball
MOSES LAKE - Big Bend Community College (BBCC) baseball improved its record to 6-0 in league play and 11-1 overall with a twin killing over the Gators Saturday.
The Vikings took game one 8-2 and shutout Green River Community College (GRCC) 1-0 in game two.
The first game got underway a 1 p.m. BBCC held the Gators off the board in the first inning and a half.
But the home team scored two runs in the bottom of the second to take a 2-0 lead in front of the Viking faithful.
The Vikings went up 3-0 with a run in the bottom of the third.
GRCC got one back in the top of the fourth to try and make a game of it. But the Vikings answered back with a score in their half of the inning to go back up by three, 4-1.
BBCC stretched its lead to 8-1 in the bottom of the sixth on the strength of four unearned runs.
The Gators got a run in the top of the eight, but couldn't get any closer and dropped the game by six runs.
The Vikings Danny Greenway pitched six and two-thirds innings to get the win for BBCC. Tyler Shaffer threw two and a third innings of relief.
Game two
The second game of the doubleheader saw very little offense by either team.
The Vikings scored one run off three hits in 21 plate appearances. Green River had three hits in 22 at bats, but failed to produce a run.
The lone score of the game came in the fourth inning for BBCC. Kailen Bickler singled to start the inning, stole second and scored off a Matt Benner single to give the Vikings the win.
