SOCIAL SECURITY
Reader wants to see system changed
Dear senior friends over 65 years old: Yes, you did pay into Social Security during your working years. However, it was not a "retirement fund." Your money went to pay for those who were receiving social security at the time. It has been this way since it began! Now, you are receiving Social Security and that money you get is being paid for by the current "baby boomer" generation who are soon retiring. Your money is not in a "lock box." It never was! It is gone!
But there will not be enough money to pay the "baby boomers" who have paid for your benefits unless we change the system because there are so many more of them than workers to pay their benefits. Your benefits are going to be paid, they are not at risk, but please start understanding and caring about the future generations!!! If nothing is done they are the ones who are paying in but will get nothing when the house of cards comes crashing done. Paying their benefits will take all the money there is. The generation paying for them will be taxed into poverty or the system will collapse.
Recipients quit fighting changes! It is not all about you! The current workers of America are not going to quit paying you. The question is who and how will the ones who are paying yours be paid theirs. Do not listen to those who suggest you will lose your benefits or that the other party wants to take them away, just to scare you into voting for them. It is a lie and an insult, as if you can be easily duped or have gone stupid because you have aged. Vote for politicians who are brave enough to commit to fixing Social Security for the future! We must revise the system!
