Fire District 5 finishing work on new station
Grant County Fire District 5 is finishing up work on a new fire station at Road 3 NE and Road Q, about two miles east of the Moses Lake city limits. The station will be manned with three to six District 5 personnel.
MOSES LAKE - Grant County Fire District 5 is wrapping up a new resident fire station at the corner of Road 3 Northeast and Road Q, just east of Moses Lake.
Work began last fall on the county's latest station, which interim District 5 Fire Chief Dan Smith said will make an even dozen for the district. Smith said the facility replaces the former station 5 that was located on Wheeler Road near REC Silicon and sold to the company after Moses Lake annexed the area.
The new station will cover all county fire calls within a five-mile radius.
The roughly $250,000 facility includes a station with a training room and large bay capable of containing a range of fire fighting apparatus, including a brush truck, structure fire truck, 3,000 gallon water tender, 95 foot ladder truck and possibly a 9,000 gallon tender, Smith said.
The cost also includes a three-bedroom manufactured home next door that Smith said will house between three to six volunteers who will rotate through in shifts to keep the station manned at all times.
Smith said Tuesday the new facility is nearly complete, with some minor interior and roof work left to finish before it opens for business. Crews are also waiting on warmer weather before laying a concrete apron and spreading gravel, which could be done in the coming weeks.
