New food permit for flea market vendors

| March 17, 2012 6:00 AM

EPHRATA – The Grant County Board of Health meeting on Wednesday, March 14, will take up the issue of a new food permit for special class of vendors.

The new permit, a Seasonal Temporary Food Permit, will serve the needs of the types of vendors who make their sales at such places as the Mattawa Flea Market.

“This permit will be good for the entire season for those vendors who qualify,” said Grant County Health District Administrator Jeff Ketchel.

Ketchel noted a draft policy, with all of the proposed requirements for vendors and event sponsors, will go before the board tomorrow. The meeting will start at 7 p.m.

As things stand now, flea mart food vendors have to secure a permit each day, and health district staff must inspect each day. With the new permit, they'd be licensed for the season.
