Ramirez boots Royal soccer to 4-0 victory

ROYAL CITY - Forward Alex Ramírez booted two goals and set up another to lead a second-half surge and give Royal High School a season opening 4-0 win over Granger on Saturday.

"It was a bit of a rough and tumble affair in the typically windy spring, but we rallied to score four goals in the second half," coach Jens Jensen said.

The contest was a South Central 1A Conference affair, giving Royal an early league lead at 1-0. The scored was tied, 0-0, at the half.

Ramírez kicked off the scoring with a goal at the 41:02 mark, or 1:02 into the second half. He fed Christian Guerrero for another goal at 66:11. He kicked his second goal at 73:51.

The final goal was turned in by substitute Marcos Quiróz at 81:04. He was assisted on the play by Brian Gallardo.

On the field, the action was fairly even. Both teams took 14 shots and Granger had six shots on goal to four for Royal. The difference was six saves by Royal goalie Lupe Arceo.

Royal returns to action tonight at home against Mabton.
