Warden girls golf looks to defend titles

MOSES LAKE - After finishing as the 2B Central Washington Conference and District champions, and taking second place at state in 2011, the Warden Cougars have high hopes for the girl's golf team again this year.

But repeating the feat this season could be a difficult task as the team graduated three seniors from the varsity squad.

However, coach Myrtle Voss, now in her 11th season as coach of the Cougars said she expects the team to be able to swing with the best in 2012.

"Taylor Edson, one of our No. 1 players from last season will lead us again this year," she said. "We have some beginners on the team, but I think we will be very competitive."

Voss said the Cougars shouldn't have much trouble in league competition, but thinks tournament play could be tough because the bulk of the team doesn't have the experience of playing under post-season conditions.

Warden will be able to gauge how far they've progressed in the off season and get a feel for what it will take for the young team to compete among the best tomorrow when the Cougars hit the links today at the Hanford Invite at Horn Rapids. Tee time is set for 8 a.m.
