Moses Lake girls golf team looks to compete

MOSES LAKE - The Chiefs will field a young inexperienced team this season.

However, coach Lonnie Brown who is in his 14th year at the helm of the program, likes the way the golfers are shaping up in 2012.

"We lost one senior from last year, Jacy Jones who was Second Team All-League, but return senior Vannessa Goodwin who was a Second Team All-League player, and senior Kristi Brown who finished in the top 20 last season," he said.  "But we'll need to find a couple more consistent scorers for this season and I think we will."

Moses Lake finished fifth in the Columbia Basin Big Nine last year and may have trouble duplicating that feat this year. But Brown said the team has a good group of girls who are working very hard to get better to be able to compete against the likes of the Richland Bombers who have dominated the league the past few years.

The Chiefs will be put to the test when they participate at the Hanford Invite at Horn Rapids today with an 8 a.m. start.

The girls will be back on the links Monday when the Chiefs host the Moses Lake Invite at the Moses Lake Country Club at 10 a.m.
