Wow, what a controversy this has caused. How do we balance the rights for all without diminishing religious sacrament? The religious definition of the word "marriage" is "between a man and woman," but through changes in society, relationships don't always reflect that. From a legal perspective, there is a separation between religion and government. While some people opt to practice tradition and marry before God in a church, all people who get married have to go through the courts to get a marriage certificate.

How is judging and discriminating against a person who wants to participate in a same sex marriage any different from what Martin Luther King Jr. stood for? Especially because we are all human beings. Why shouldn't they be allowed to get a marriage certificate through the courts and be afforded the same legal rights as a woman and man? Who am I to discriminate against a same sex couple that desires to be a family, when obviously the marriages that we currently allow are not all that serious, as statistically proven by the evidence in our high divorce rates?

My God commands love, unconditional love, and my God declares and decrees to let Him judge. While I personally do not practice acts of homosexuality, I do practice taking a look in the mirror at myself before thinking of placing judgement on another.

Less than 10 years ago, I was walking down the steps of the temple of justice and it was like splitting waters. One side was the "religious people" and the other was the "gays." I still remember the feeling resulting in tears welling up in my eyes as I walked through the middle of that path because one side was judgement and lack of love, and the other side was torture, pain, suffering, oppression and unwarranted hate. I am sorry.
