Golfers tee it up this weekend

MOSES LAKE - The 12th annual Grant County Economic Development Council (GCEDC) Duel in the Desert golf tournament tee's off this weekend. Day one of the two-day event will be held at the Moses Lake Golf Club Friday, Day two will be held at The Links at Moses Pointe Saturday.

"This is our biggest fundraiser of the year," Emily Braunwart, GCEDC accounting and communication manager said. "The proceeds will be used to help attract new businesses to Grant County."

Registration on Friday is set for 11:30 a.m., with a shotgun start for the scramble best ball format at 1 p.m. Registration on Saturday gets underway at 7:30 a.m. Golfing begins at 9. Maximum handicap is 30.

This event in not open to the general public. You must be a sponsor to participate in the tournament. Participants can sign up at varying levels.

The minimum sponsorship is $300 which does not include the two rounds of golf. However, you do receive breakfast, dinner and signage at your table.  

A $500 sponsorship provides golf for one person, two dinner tickets, signage on the course or drink cart and an advertisement in the and Columbia Basin Herald.

Extra golfers are $250 each and is only available at the $1,800 sponsorship level. The maximum sponsorship is $10,000 which includes golf for eight people, 16 dinner tickets with free drinks from the cash bar, a four night stay in a condo at Moses Pointe for the weekend of the tournament, a banner, tent, signage on the golf course, and recognition in all advertising.

There will be three hole-in-one prizes, one each from Bud Cleary, Les Schwab and Experience PowerSports.

"Bud Cleary gave a way a vehicle last year," Braunwart said. "Les Schwab gave away cash and Experience PowerSports gave away a quad."

Awards for closest to the pin and straightest and longest drives will also be handed out.
