Ernest Burnett, 90, a resident of Moses Lake since 1953 passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at Samaritan Hospital surrounded by loving family.

Ernest was born to David Thompson Burnett and Agnes Stuart Burnett on October 24, 1921 in Tremonton, Utah. He was the youngest of 6 children. He was raised on the family farm in Plymouth, Utah and attended Bear River High School in Garland, Utah. In May 1943 he married Beth Garn in the Logan Utah Temple. The newlyweds were separated by World War II when Ernest was drafted into the Navy on Dec. 7, 1943. He received an honorable discharge and returned to his anxious bride March 17, 1946. In 1953, when U & I Sugar Company opened their Moses Lake factory, Ernest moved his wife and 2 young boys here. He was employed by U & I Sugar as an electrician.

Ernest was devoted to his family and taught them by example to be loyal, honest, hardworking and considerate. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as the financial clerk for the Moses Lake 3rd Ward for 32 years. He was always mindful of those around him and performed services and acts of kindness. He loved seeing pictures of and visiting with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife, Beth; children, Neal E. Burnett (and wife Terry) of Moses Lake, Washington, Larry J. Burnett (and wife Joann) of Kent, Washington, Leslie (Burnett) Riggs (and husband Mark) of Ephrata, Washington and Nancy (Burnett) Hyer (and husband Chris) of Moses Lake, Washington; 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren (one on the way) and 2 great-great granddaughters.

Viewing for friends and family will be Monday, July 30th, noon to 7 p.m. with family members greeting guests from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Tuesday, July 31 from 9 to 9:45 a.m. at the church. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at 10 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Nelson Road Chapel, 1849 E. Nelson Rd., Moses Lake.
