Little League baseball this weekend

MOSES LAKE - Thousands of Little League baseball players from as far away as Canada and Montana will be taking the field at five separate locations in and around Moses Lake this weekend.

Boys from approximately 102 teams in the 8U to 15U age groups who dream of becoming big leaguers some day will display their talents at the three-day event.

Games will be held at Larson Field, Moses Lake High School, Lake View Terrance and Knolls Vista Elementary schools, the Lozier Sports Complex and Lions Park in Othello.

The influx of people who will be attending the tournament means a much needed shot in the arm for the local economy.

"This event, along with the Journey concert and the Blue Grass Festival is going to be great for our economy," Debbie Doran-Martinez, executive director of the Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce said. "All of our hotels, motels, and camping facilities are booked up. There will be thousands of people shopping in our stores and eating in our restaurants. This is good for our community ... I wish we had more weekend like this."

But it's not just an economic boost for Moses Lake as it will be difficult to find lodging from Ritzville to Ellensburg.

The baseball action gets underway today a 2 p.m. at all locations.

Admission is free and several former major league ball players are expected to be on hand.
