| July 23, 2012 6:00 AM

KENT - The Columbia Basin River Dogs were just two wins away from advancing to the Senior Babe Ruth World Series. But the team stubbed its collective toes and was shutout by Kent 4-0 to finish third at the Pacific Northwest Senior Babe Ruth Regional Championships at Kent Memorial Park Monday.

Both teams were held off the board until Kent brought three runs across the plate in the top of the third inning. Kent added one more run in the top of the fifth to run away with the game as the team out hit the River Dogs 14 to 3. Bryton Redal, Elliott Sage and Josh Snider had a hit apiece for the River Dogs.

Redal was named to the all-tournament team.

The River Dogs are back in action this weekend when the team hosts the Northwest Prep Championships. Columbia Basin will take on the Seattle Titans Friday at 5:30 p.m., match up against the Prairie Cardinals at 3 p.m. Saturday and then play the Burbank Diamondbacks at 5.

The semifinal games will take place Sunday morning at 11:30, with the finals to follow at 2 p.m.
