Sheriff seeks applicants for reserve deputy

| July 12, 2012 6:00 AM

EPHRATA – The Grant County Sheriff's Office is seeking applications from persons who would like to be reserve deputies.

Accepted applicants will attend the 300-hour Reserve Officer Training Academy and receive on-the-job training with a sheriff's deputy. This will result in a limited commission from the Sheriff.

According to Sheriff Tom Jones, the reserve program is considered ideal for people thinking about a career switch to law enforcement. It's also good for someone who wants to work occasionally as a part-time deputy to supplement the department's regular staff.

The training academy lasts about 19 weeks and starts Oct. 16. Courses take place from 6-10 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, plus eight hours on most Saturdays and some Sundays.

Applications are available at the sheriff's office, 35 C Street NW, Ephrata, and on line at www.co.grant.wa.us/sheriff/HTM/Reserve-Deputy.htm. They will be accepted through Sept. 17.

Applicants must be at least 21, have a Washington driver's license, be a U.S. citizen and have a high school or equivalent education. For more information, contact Sgt. Kieth Siebert at 509-754-2011 ext. 640, or email ksiebert@co.grant.wa.us.
