Jack Yoshio Hattori

Jack Yoshio Hattori, age 91, passed away on June 5, 2012 in Moses Lake. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, July 14, m2012 at Kayser's Chapel of Memories. Jack was born March 25, 1921 in Thomas, Washington. He was the second of three sons born to first generation immigrants, Buheije and Yoshino Hattori. Jack graduated from Kent High School in 1939. He farmed with his father and brothers in Kent, Washington. They raised vegetables and berries on rented land and sold their produce to local residents and grocery stores. The family was interned at Tule Lake, California during World War II. After the War, the family relocated to Moses Lake, Washington.  Jack farmed with his brothers in the Columbia Basin beginning in 1944. Jack and younger brother, Mike, farmed together as Hattori Bros. Inc. from 1947until their retirement in 1993. They raised potatoes, sugar beets, grains, and vegetable seeds.

In retirement, Jack enjoyed his garden of flowers and vegetables. Whatever he chose to grow, he did it with focus and passion. He also mastered the art of building fly fishing rods as gifts for his family. Jack also loved to fish with his family and friend, Ned Osumi. Jack will be remembered by his family, relatives and friends as being a quiet man with patience, kindness, for having conviction for doing "what is right" and being a great farmer / gardener.

Jack is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marjorie Konishi Hattori of Moses Lake, Washington; three children, their spouses and four grandchildren: Colleen Lee "Coco" and Steve Heslin, Las Vegas, Nevada, Jeffrey and Jolene Hattori, Richland, Washington, Duane and Deeanna Hattori, Richland, Washington. Grandchildren: Brian and Kalia Hattori, MacKay, Austrailia, Jack Y. Hattori II, Oakland, California, Andrew Hattori and Evan Hattori, Richland, Washington.
