QUINCY - A third suspect in last September's shooting of Ramiro "Junior" Munoz Jr., of Quincy, was apprehended in North Carolina.

U.S. Marshals captured Gerardo Miguel Valenzuela Navarro, 19, Tuesday morning for an April 2012 warrant for suspicion of a second-degree murder. He is being held in that state pending his return to Washington.

He joins Eddie Alvarez Hernandez, 21, and Erwin Vasquez, 20, both of Quincy, with criminal charges stemming from the shooting.

All three have been associated with area gangs.

The trio allegedly shot and killed Munoz outside a family reunion along C Street in Quincy last Sept. 23.

Munoz, a former gang member, had spent the last few years of his life working to curb gang violence in the area. Police reports said that he was attempting to cut ties with the gang.

Vasquez allegedly approached Munoz at the reunion and was told to leave. This angered Vasquez, who started walking backward before running away from the group.

Reports say that three men - including Munoz - followed to make sure Vasquez left the area.

After following for a while, Valenzuela Navarro and Alvarez Hernandez allegedly came out from a nearby house. The former reportedly fired two or three shots into the direction of the men.

Munoz reportedly responded by telling Valenzuela Navarro to not shoot, and challenged him to a fist fight, according to court records. Valenzuela Navarro allegedly fired another shot at Munoz, killing him.
