SNOW REMOVAL

Reader wants to know why plowing was slow

As I made my way through town on Thursday after our first snow, I was surprised to find Third Avenue was cleared but only one lane in both directions with a very large snow mound in the center. My first thought was the city will surely clean this up so shoppers can get around. I then ventured over to Fourth Avenue and to my surprise it was totally cleared. As of today, Sunday, Jan. 22, Third Avenue is still not cleared. My question is: Why? I think this is truly unfair to the businesses not to mention the public. A large truck cannot park in front of businesses and still have room for traffic to get by because of the snow mounds.

I called the city to ask why they did not totally clear Third and there was not a clear answer. At the same time, I asked why Broadway from Third up, around Pioneer to Third, was not cleared of the center snow mound. The answer was it is the state's responsibility. I can understand that, however, why would the state plow the center from Interstate 90 to Third and not continue on? That question was asked and, again, not clearly answered.

I feel the city has let the public, and especially the business owners, down and should re-think their policies regarding snow removal.
