MOSES LAKE - Moses Lake's newest park is now officially on the books with a final plat.

Harrison K. Dano Park was named for a prominent Moses Lake lawyer whose family donated the roughly five acres for city use.

Construction on the park began in the spring of 2010 on Paxson Drive, near the intersection with Virginia Street, adjacent to Park Orchard Elementary School.

The Moses Lake City Council approved the final platting of the park Tuesday, zoning the site as Single Family Residential, which corresponds with the underlying comprehensive plan land use designation.

"I would like to bring to the attention of the community the contributions that have been made by people stepping up and taking a concern in the welfare and the quality of life in our community," said Councilman Dick Deane, calling the donation of land "a wonderful display of family."

Moses Lake Parks and Recreation Superintendent Lori Moholt-Phillips also thanked the Dano family for the donation, saying the city plans to move several soccer programs there this spring.

The new facility includes a regulation size soccer field, picnic area and youth practice field.
