Reader supports Hansen's efforts

This letter is a rebuttal to Curt Austin's letter of Jan. 19. In that letter, he quoted me as saying, "give Mick Hansen a chance," then he asked, "a chance to do what?"

Having lived in Moses Lake my entire life, I want what's best for our community as I assume most of you do as well. The future of this community, the lake and surrounding area will affect our future generations.

After attending the first two meetings, I have been dismayed at the behavior that has been displayed at those meetings. There has been eye rolling, grumbling, rudeness, and total disrespect toward some who are speaking.

I have known Mick Hansen for over 50 years and have always known him as a hard-working, honest man who cares about our community as well. He has spent a great deal of his own money, time and effort to take on this task. We all need to give him a chance to do what he says he can do. As for him lowering expenses, wouldn't we all be better off if our public officials had the same attitude?

Let's "raise the bar" here in Moses Lake and show the surrounding communities that we can deal with our differences and work together for the good of all who live and work here and in the process, treat each other with respect and decency.

If after Mick's term in office, he hasn't done what he said he could do, then vote him out and get someone else in his place. In the meantime, give him a chance and support his efforts. He will either stand or fall on his accomplishments.
