Quincy continues with library district
QUINCY - Quincy is staying in the North Central Regional Library District.
The city council approved a contract with the district following discussions on whether the city should leave the district at a previous meeting. The councilmembers agreed to the district's proposal to pay for a 9,087 square-foot building.
The city had been asking for the district to pay for the additional grounds, including the landscaping and parking lot.
"There was some discussion and some concern over the fact that our contract says, 'Buildings and grounds,' and I thought (Dean Marney, the North Central Regional Library executive director) did a really good job explaining why that agreement said, 'Buildings and grounds,'" Mayor Jim Hemberry said.
Marney said in the previous meeting the addition to the agreement was made because the library took over maintenance of the library's bathroom.
Hemberry still had some concerns, but it wasn't worth pulling out of the library district.
The councilmembers unanimously agreed to the contract without any further discussion.
