MOSES LAKE - The Othello High School Huskies have their eyes on the Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC) league title. And the team is well on its way to accomplishing its goal as Othello has not lost a match in league play.

"We are currently undefeated, but have a few more teams that are starting to get a little stronger," coach Ruben Martinez said. "We travel to Quincy on Tuesday and then to Selah on Thursday. I hope we can keep everybody healthy. If we can, we should accomplish our goal of winning the CWAC league title and most importantly, without a loss."

The most consistent wrestlers on the team this year, Martinez said, are state veterans Anthony Barrera (106) Stephen Villarreal (182) and Joey Gomez (220).

"They all have been consistent throughout the season," Martinez said. "AJ Garza (113), Lucas Garza( 126), Eric Garza (152), Matthew Melo  (160), along with Bubba Ruiz (285), have also been wrestling well."

Although the Huskies are well close to obtaining the goal set at the beginning of the season, Martinez said there is still room to improve before the post-season action gets underway.

"We still have some holes to fill, but hope to do that once our wrestlers are able to get to their desired weight," he said. "We are still not quite the tournament team we are capable of being, but that should change come districts.

If everything goes according to plan, we will finally have a team at full strength with 24 wrestlers helping us lock down tour third straight district title."

If things do go as well as planned over the next two meets, the Huskies will get a chance to defend their 2011 district crown in Ellensburg in early February.
