QUINCY - The Quincy City Council is expected to interview candidates tonight to fill a seat vacated by Travis Wittman.

Applicants for the position are expected to speak at the city council meeting at 7 p.m. at Quincy City Hall, located at 104 B Street SW.

Wittman resigned during a December council meeting following comments exchanged with Maintenance Supervisor Dave Reynolds during a discussion on a new gunshot location service, and council member comments.

Reynolds commented on Wittman using his cellphone during a meeting, which Wittman responded to by telling Reynolds to mind his own business. This came before his announcement he was resigning from the council.

The city accepted applications for the position through Jan. 13.

The candidates will speak at the council meeting and may be questioned by the councilmembers, Mayor Jim Hemberry said in a previous meeting. At the end of the meeting, the council will go into executive session to discuss the candidates and return to vote to determine the next council member.
