MARYSVILLE - The Moss Lake High School wrestling team pulled out a win by the slimmest of margins to take the top honors at the Marysville Premier Saturday.

Sixteen schools from around the state entered the competition and when it was all said and done, the Chiefs (181.5) edged Snohomish High School (180.5) by one point to claim the bragging rights.

"It was a great win for us." coach Jamie Wise said. "Snohomish took a big lead on the pack, but we came back with strong performances from our mid and upper weights. The kids are really starting to battle and it's great to see."

The usual suspects, Nico Moreno, Jonathan Perales and Hayden Wise turned in solid performance to lead the way for Moses Lake.

Wise pinned his first two opponents, won by a 2-0 decision in his third match, and 6-4 in the final to capture the 120 pound bracket. Moreno won all his matches by pin to take the 152 crown and Perales pinned his first two opponents, and won by decision over the next two to win the championship at 170.

Brad Fox (132) turned is a solid effort as well, placing second in his weight classification.

"Those guys had outstanding performances ... in fact a lot of kids wrestled well," Wise said. "It's nice to see all of their hard work is paying off."

The Chiefs also got road wins last week beating Walla Walla 58-15 Thursday, and downing Edmonds-Woodway 47-25 and Marysville-Pilchuck 59-18 in a dual meet Friday.

"Everyone had a good outing getting pins up and down the lineup," Wise said. "We have a big test coming up this weekend at the Dream Duals in Spokane. It should be an exciting meet with the top wrestlers in each position going at each other."

The meet starts at 10 a.m.
