MOSES LAKE - The Moses Lake City Council decided who would represent the city this year on two county boards.

The Grant Transit Authority requested council members submit their choice for who will serve on the executive board of directors in 2012, as well as an alternate.

Councilman Dick Deane was chosen to again serve on the nine person panel, which also includes representatives of Wilson Creek, Coulee City, Electric City, Soap Lake, Ephrata, Warden, Quincy, and the Grant County Board of Commissioners.

"I'd love to continue on," Deane said, highlighting some of the work the board has done in the past few years - including a nearly $5 million facility project started in 2010. "We've had people come in from Washington D.C. in the transit industry and they've identified that we're probably the poster child for small rural community transit programs," Deane said. "What we've been able to put together is being earmarked by other young companies, other thriving communities, to take a look at what we've been able to do and I've been proud to be a part of that project."

A call for an alternate board member prompted no immediate response from members of the council.

Grant Transit Authority Board Members are eligible for compensation at the rate of $90 per meeting attended, plus mileage.

Council then approved Councilman David Curnel to serve again on the Grant County Board of Health, which governs the Grant County Health District and, like the GTA Board, consists of nine locally elected or appointed officials representing county and city governments within the county.

"I'd be more than happy to serve again," Curnel said.
