Moses Lake girls drop two games

MOSES LAKE - The Chiefs lost two hard fought basketball games over the weekend. The first was at the hands of the Wenatchee Panthers at home Friday 57-41, and the second to Richland on the road Saturday, 47-36.
The losses drop Moses Lake to 0-6 in the Big Nine and 1-12 overall.

The Panthers got out to a 6-2 lead as the Chiefs turned the ball over on their first three possessions. Wenatchee doubled its tally while holding Moses Lake two only two points to finish out the first eight minutes of play to go up 12-4.
A basket and two free throws from the Chiefs Carina LeFave narrowed the gap to 12-8.
The Panthers Emile Holzerland answered back with a shot from behind the arch to increase the Wenatchee lead to 15-8.
Emily Olson sank one of two free throws for Moses Lake to end the first quarter scoring, 15-9 in favor of the visiting team.
Moses Lake went on a 13-7 run in the second quarter, sparked by three point baskets by Courtney Kunjara and Keiley Garcia to get within two, 22-20 at the half.
Two quick fouls on Sadie Nielsen ignited a 15-2 run by the Panthers in the third quarter as Wenatchee pulled away 37-22.
A 15-12 spurt by the Chiefs in the fourth quarter made things interesting, but it was too little too late as Wenatchee won by 16.
Kunjara led the way for Moses Lake with nine points. Garcia added seven, Nielsen and Olson had six each, Madison Wilks chipped in five and LeFave and Kaitlyn finished with four points each.

RICHLAND - Moses Lake lost a tough road game to the third place Bombers in Big Nine action Saturday. The game was close throughout, but a one point second quarter output was the undoing for the Chiefs.
Moses Lake led 7-6 after the first quarter, but only managed a single point in the second eight minutes of play.
However, the Chiefs were still in the game, down 17-8 at the half.
The second half of play was nip and tuck as Richland edged Moses Lake 30-28 to win the game by 11.
Emily Olson paced the Chiefs with 10 points. Courtney Kunjara added eight, Hailee Bishop and Selina Koon had seven points each and Sadie Nielsen finished with 6.
The Chiefs are back in action Friday when the team hosts Chiawana at 7:30 p.m.
