ROYAL CITY - The Royal girls continued to have a tough season in high school basketball last week, falling to Mabton, 65-20 and Connell, 49-27.

However, coach Phil Daubel was able to find some positives. He was happy with his girls' intensity against the Eagles. And the rebounding was good. Now they just need to get the shooting to match.

Royal's rebounding was led by Lindsey Christensen with 12 caroms. She also scored eight points to lead in that department.

Also rebounding well with five boards each were Brittney Jo Hebdon and Kayla Smith. Stefhany Guadarrama and Marissa Squeoch had four rebounds each.

A big downfall was free throws. The Knights made only nine of 26, and that didn't the back ends of 1-and-1s.

Royal stayed with Mabton for a quarter but was outscored, 40-8 in the second and third periods. One Mabton girl scored eight three-point baskets.

"We can't give up eight 3s to any girl," Daubel said.

Christensen led the club with four points and eight rebounds.
