Nat Washington house topic of GCHS meeting

EPHRATA - The Nat Washington House will be the topic when guest speaker Mike Scellick addresses the Grant County Historical Society heritage luncheon on Tuesday, Jan. 10.

The GCHS will have its monthly Board meeting at 10:30 a.m. at the Ephrata American Legion, 276 Eighth Ave NW, in Ephrata. The heritage lunch will follow at noon.

Scellick will give a presentation on the past, present and future of the Nat Washington House, which Scellick now owns. All Society members and guests are encouraged to attend.

According to GCHS President Rita Mayrant, Nat Washington was a high-recognition political figure in Washington during the 1960s and 1970s. His house is located across the street from the Grant County Courthouse.

Scellick recently purchased the house from Washington's sons. It has been made available for public events, Mayrant said.

Mayrant said her son Randy Bracht told her: "It is so filled with historical stuff from years and years and years."
