MOSES LAKE - An apparently stray bullet hit the window of a residence during a gang-related altercation in the Larson housing area north of Moses Lake.

Two people called 9-1-1 New Year's Day at about 1 a.m. to report hearing three or four gunshots in the area of Vandenberg Loop, according to Grant County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Ken Jones on Thursday.

One caller said they heard someone walking by the residence yell a gang reference soon after the shots were fired, but the caller was reportedly afraid and did not look out the window again or see the subjects, Jones said.

The street was quiet when deputies arrived and, despite checking the area on foot, they were reportedly unable to locate any bullet casings or other evidence of shots fired. Deputies continued to patrol the area throughout the night, Jones said.

The following day a Vandenberg Loop resident called police to report finding a bullet hole in their front window. Jones said the bullet appears to have penetrated an interior wall and, losing velocity, became lodged in a second interior wall.

Nobody was inside the residence at the time of the shooting.

Jones confirmed the incident appears to have been gang related and the bullet that hit the home was likely a stray round and not intended for the resident.
