Irrigation district donates to new public dock

MOSES LAKE - The Moses Lake Irrigation and Rehabilitation District donated $10,000 to help fund a new public pier.
The Columbia Basin Walleye Club still needs about $48,000 to cover the cost of the 120-foot, multi-purpose pier they hope to build at Blue Heron Park by next spring, according to club treasurer Janet Baker.
Quincy-based Deleron Flotation Systems will build and install the pier and the Walleye Club will provide in-kind labor for handicap accessible walkways. No swimming or boat tie-ups will be allowed on the dock, which would only be used for fishing, bird watching, sun bathing and similar activities.
The $10,000 donation ties in with the Moses Lake Irrigation and Rehabilitation District's mission statement, according to district administrative assistant Julie Smith, who said the statement was drawn from a state law governing the district's purpose.
"It is our goal to enhance the recreational aspects of the lake and to rehabilitate the lake to further the health, welfare and quality of life of the citizens that surround it," the statement reads, in part.
Baker joined fellow Walleye Club member Behr Turner Thursday in accepting a check from Irrigation District general manager Curt Carpenter and board member Ron Covey.
