Gonzalez leaves Quincy council

QUINCY - Quincy councilmembers and staff thanked outgoing Councilmember Tony Gonzalez for his service.

Gonzalez' term ended on Dec. 31 after Thomas Harris defeated him in a recent election.

He joined the council in 2004, serving two terms.

"Of course, we worked together for 30 some years and sat here together for eight years, I appreciate your years of service," Mayor Jim Hemberry said.

The mayor's comment was followed by staff members and all but one of the city councilmembers wishing Gonzalez well.

Gonzalez thanked the entire staff, pointing out the addition of data centers and new employees during his time on the council.

"The staff here in the city has really, really taken care of our city," he said. "We have an excellent mayor ... We have an excellent lawyer and very good people."

He congratulated the city for how well it's taken care of.

"Hopefully, one of these days, you'll see me back again," Gonzalez said.
