Chiefs finish fourth at NW Duals meet in Beaverton

BEAVERTON - The Moses Lake High School wrestling team had a successful trip to the Northwest Duals meet in Beaverton, taking fourth out of 32 teams. Tri-State champion Nico Moreno (152) game up big for the Chiefs beating the No. 2 ranked wrestler in the state of Oregon.

Nico put the hammer down on everyone he wrestled," coach Jamie Wise said. "We had to move him up a couple of weight classes ... to 160 and 170, and that's hard on most kids. But he looked great, wrestled smart and frustrated the heck out of some of the bigger guys."

After having to forfeit a few of the matches, Wise said the lightweights wrestled well and played a huge roll in the teams success.

"Trey Long (106) stepped up big for us. Chase Clasen (113) had five pins, Hayden (Wise) didn't lose a match, and Beau Gleed (126) is getting tougher and tougher with the more confidence he gains and that is nice to see," he said. "But Brad Fox (132) really saved us as he had to fight off his back and wasn't pinned to keep us in the dual meet."

The Chiefs are back on the mat Saturday when they host the Hall of Fame Invitational. The time is yet to be determined.

"That's going to be a big one," Wise said. "It's the best day of the year for wrestling outside the state tournament. If you want to see some of the best wrestlers in the country, you won't want to miss it."
