Wilson Creek girls lose to Columbia

SPOKANE - The Wilson Creek girls basketball team took one on the chin at the 1B Central Washington regional tournament at Shadle Park High School Saturday, dropping a lopsided 77-11 game to Columbia Hunters.
"We knew we were the underdog's going into the game," coach Cori Kane said. "They have a lot of experience with a lot of juniors and seniors on their team and we have a lot of eighth graders and freshman on the team ... our oldest player is a sophomore."
The Lions got out of the gate quick, out scoring the Devils 38-4 in the first quarter, and led 56-8 at the half. Wilson Creek was shutout in the third quarter and only scored three points in the fourth.
"This was only the second time in the school's history the girls team has made it to the regional tournament," Kane said. "So they were nervous and had pretty big eyes when the stepped out on the court."
Understandable for such a young team. But the Devils now know what it takes to play on a higher level and Kane said with some off season work, she expects the team to be back in the running again next season.
"We'll put on some camps this summer and work on our fundamentals," She said. "We need to be able to move the ball up the court quicker and improve on our shooting."
Kelsey Kane was given the 1B regional tournament sportsmanship award.
Coach Kane was named the 1B Coach of the Year.
