Girl charged in Quincy stabbing

EPHRATA - A December stabbing in the parking lot of a Quincy grocery store allegedly started with an argument inside the store.

Prosecutors recently charged Victoria V. Martinez, 17, with assault in the first degree in Grant County Superior Court, according to court records.

State law requires 16- or 17-year-old juveniles charged with serious crimes to be charged as adults.

The victim and Martinez gave differing versions of how the event started, according to a Quincy police report. The victim told police she was in Akins Foods when she saw Martinez near the check stand. When the victim approached Martinez, the girl reportedly started giving her "dirty looks."

The victim allegedly told Martinez to wait for her outside, and the girl refused, according to the police report. The victim followed Martinez outside after the girl left the store. When she approached Martinez, the girl looked like she was getting something out of the car.

Martinez reported to police the victim tried to get her to fight in the store, according to the police report. The victim allegedly had been harassing her because the victim's boyfriend was contacting Martinez.

Both the victim and Martinez allegedly told police the two began arguing in the parking lot, which led to the two pushing each other, according to the police report. The victim reportedly grabbed Martinez' hair.

Video surveillance allegedly showed Martinez making stabbing motions at the victim, according to the police report. During the fight, Martinez allegedly stabbed the victim in the stomach, upper arm and upper thigh.

The victim's boyfriend separated the two people. When he and the victim were driving away, she discovered the stab wounds, according to the police report. They drove to the Quincy Valley Medical Center where the victim was treated.
