THANK YOU
Reader thanks officials for attending events
I would like to say thank you to all the public officials that graciously took the time out of their busy schedules to attend some of the events honoring Martin Luther King. It is a show of great leadership when those who are elected to represent the public, appear in times of celebration to recognize the importance of an amazing historical man who helped define equality, fairness, and civil rights for all. It is a blessing for our country when a community works together to demonstrate civil respect and leadership. While we all are entitled to our own opinion, our likes and dislikes should only be defined by integrity.
To anyone who has experienced the past torture, pain, suffering, oppression and unwarranted hate, I am sorry. If I can have one wish with regard to this matter, it would be to heal the wounds embedded in your mind, spirit and heart because no one deserved to go through what you have experienced and what happened was just wrong. The ability to all join hands, no matter what color you are, is the essence of truth and understanding.
When I was watching the movie "The Help," I couldn't help but wonder, how ignorant and cruel spirited some people can be. Seriously, the black people couldn't use a white person's bathroom because of the supposed "germs" but they were the ones doing the cooking, cleaning and raising of the children in these white people's homes. From a logical perspective, that just doesn't make sense, but what I have come to realize is that when something doesn't make sense, it is because something is misunderstood or just not right. Our country has come a long way in developing right-minded leadership and civility toward all. Thank you everyone who attended.
