MOSES LAKE - The No. 2 ranked Moses Lake Christian Academy (MLCA) boys basketball team travels to Spokane Friday to take on Wellpinit in first round action of the 1B Regional Tournament.

The Lions are the No. 1 seed out of the district bracket and the Redskins, the No. 2 seed, so the game is sure to be packed with a lot of talent and plenty of excitement.

The action gets underway at 6 p.m.

"We have had an outstanding year going 10-0 in League play, and are 20-2 overall," coach Duke Wood said. "Wellpinit (19-2) is a very well coached team that has had lots of success in the past. They start a 6'5 guard and two other players that are 6'4 players. They all like to shoot the ball and rebound very well."

MLCA secured the No. 1 seed going into the tournament by beating Cascade Christian 63-43 to claim the district championship last week. Wellpinit earned the No. 2 seed after losing to Valley Christian of Spokane 51-46 Saturday.

The Lions attack will be led by Joe Timofeyev and Lowell Kirkwood who average 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists per game. Thomas Knopp (10 points and 8 rebounds per game), Connor Webb (10 ppg, 6 rebounds, 4 assists) and Alex Allsbrook (6 ppg and 5 rebounds).

"By looking at our starters and the numbers we are a tough team for anyone to match up with as any of these guys can get 20-plus points a night," Wood said. "But we must block out and rebound equally or better than they do to have a chance in this game. It's a great match-up for us and we will be ready. The kids are focused, and we have been here before."

The Lions needs to be focused and play their best ball Friday night as this is a single elimination game. Win and move on, lose and go home.
