TACOMA - The Quincy Jacks only took five wrestlers to the Mat Classic over this past weekend, but came home with three state placers. Gabe Martinez and Christian Alejandrez finished second and third in the 106 weight class, and Carter Bushman finished seventh over the two-day tournament.

Martinez beat Jackson Mills from Tumwater  14-6 in his first match on opening day Friday.  He defeated Brady Anderson from Port Angeles 9-0 in his second round match up and won a 2-0 overtime match in the semi-final round over Cale Woyvodich of Foster to set up a showdown with Glenn Robertson of Fife, which he lost 2-1 to finish second.

Alejandrez got off on the right foot by defeating Jakob Collins from R.A. Long, 11-4, in his first match of the tournament Friday to stay alive in the championship bracket. He lost to Glenn Robertson of Fife, the eventual state champion to drop into the consolation bracket. Alejandrez beat Andrew Bosch of Woodland, 9-0, then defeated Cale Woyvodich 7-2 to claim third place.

Carter Bushman (152) took seventh place at the Mat Classic.

"I thought our guys wrestled to their potential," coach Greg Martinez said. "We finished about where I expected them to finish.'

The Lady Jacks Cynthia Ramierez (106) and Vivian Bazan (155) lost their first two matches and were eliminated from the competition.
