Sheriff offers OffenderWatch

| February 19, 2012 5:00 AM

EPHRATA – The Grant County Sheriff's Office has added an OffenderWatch program for the citizens of Grant County who seek up-to-date information about sex offenders.

To view basic information on offenders in your area visit  http://www.sheriffalerts.com/wa/grant.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office manages between 300 and 400 registered sex offenders.  OffenderWatch allows the public to view basic information on registered sex offenders, register for e-mail alerts and receive preventative and educational information.

An online presentation is available to help viewers learn more about this free community program.

Information about registered sex offenders is not made available for the public to take any action against any individual, Sheriff Tom Jones said. There is a penalty for harassing, intimidating or threatening sex offenders.

Such abuse could potentially end law enforcement’s ability to conduct community notifications, Jones said.
