ROYAL CITY - The Royal City United Methodist Church chili feed, which was stunningly successful last year, will be repeated on March 10.

Once again, church member Alice Parker's recipes will be featured. The chili will be made with locally-produced beef.

The rest of the meal will include Cole slaw, corn bread and coffee. Ice cream will be served as a dessert. And there will hot dogs for children who may prefer them.

The chili feed will be held at the Royal City Community Center at the Royal Golf Course at Highway 26 and Dodson Road. Serving will start at 5 p.m. and go to about 7 p.m.

There will be entertainment by country gospel singer Johnny Fisk.

According to church member Lee Irwin, the chili feed was moved to the RCCC because the church's basement is occupied. It was leased to the school district for one of its preschool programs.

"They've got a lot of stuff in there," Irwin said.

Proceeds from this fund-raiser will be dedicated to maintenance and upgrades of the church building. There will be no set charge, but free will donations will be accepted.

Last year's chili feed allowed the congregation to upgrade the church's roof and change the basement floor from carpet to tile.

Irwin said plans for this year include replacement of the main electrical panel and replacement of wood paneling with sheet rock in the office, hallway and meeting room, all in the basement.
